SKYRAIL,

THE BEST SOLUTION

BYD SkyRail is an advanced monorail system designed to solve urban congestion
and transit challenges, without the significant infrastructure costs, construction timelines or traffic strains caused by grade separated rail projects.

SKYRAIL
ENGINEERING

SkyRail is an advanced monorail system that runs on an elevated guidebeam that supports, stabilizes and guides the trains.
The innovative design optimizes energy efficiency, safety, comfortand cost-effectiveness; the sleek, modern design enhances the urban landscape. Wide bridge type structure are not needed – only 27.5 inch wide beams.

STRADDLE BEAM MONORAIL

SkyRail straddles the guidebeam – the structure which both supports and guides the train. The component which interfaces between the train and guidebeam is called the Bogie.

POWER RAILS ON BEAMS

SkyRail systems are designed with safety as the utmost priority. In the event passengers have to exit onto the emergency evacuation walkway, the interlocked power rails are fully de-energized if the passenger doors open.

1Track Movement

BYD developed 6 types of guidebeam switches using transit grade components. The switches allow SkyRail to operate in Pinched Loop operation, and switch between guidebeams.

2

Availability of switches on SkyRail systems is greater than 99.98%

EMERGENCY
EVACUATION WALKWAY

In case evacuation is required, there is an emergency evacuation walkway running longitudinally along the alignment between the guidebeams.

SUPERIOR URBAN
INTEGRATION

Maximum Gradeability

With the smaller structures and superior gradeability compared to conventional rail systems.

Minimum Turning Radius

A significantly tighter turning radius allows SkyRail to seamlessly integrate into the existing cityscape, preventing land reclamation and relocation, and reducing construction complexity and cost.
